The rooms people love most are rarely furnished from a single shop. They hold things with a story. Good design does not hide those pieces; it builds around them.
Start with the piece that matters most
Choose one item to lead the room: an heirloom cabinet, a painting, a rug. Take your palette from it. A rug with rust and indigo threads can set the colours for cushions, a throw and even the wall colour.
Give it space
A special piece needs room to be seen. Clear the wall around a painting, light a cabinet with a lamp or a picture light, and avoid crowding it with other strong pieces.
Reupholster before you replace
Solid older furniture is often better made than new. New fabric, foam and a repair to the joints can make a tired chair the best seat in the house, often for less than a new one of the same quality.
Mix old and new on purpose
Pair a carved antique with a simple modern lamp, or a vintage table with clean-lined chairs. The contrast makes both look intentional.
On every project we start by asking what you want to keep. It is the quickest way to a home that feels like yours.
