A renovation is exciting, and it moves quickly once it starts. Answering a few questions first makes every later decision easier.
1. How do you actually live?
Think about a normal Tuesday, not a dinner party. Where do you drop your keys? Where do the children do homework? Who cooks? The plan should serve daily life first.
2. What is your total budget, and what is in it?
Decide on one number that includes building work, finishes, furniture, design fees and a contingency of around ten to fifteen percent for surprises.
3. What must stay?
List the furniture, art and features you want to keep. They will shape the design.
4. When do you need it finished?
Work back from any fixed date, such as a move or a family occasion. Custom joinery and imported finishes can take several weeks to arrive.
5. Who makes the final decisions?
Agree at home who signs off on choices. It keeps the project moving and avoids changes on site, which are the most expensive kind.
If you would like help working through these, our project brief asks the same questions and takes about four minutes.
